that day

there is a day here in Moscow when all the children suddenly start wearing hats. and wo betide you if you try and take a child out without a hat after that day. babushkas will flock to you and tell you in no uncertain terms that are basically the worst mother in the world and it will all be your fault when your child becomes ill.

however, this date is not written anywhere and if you dare to ask anyone about it they will feign ignorance and claim you are a silly foreigner.

it also doesn't seem to have anything really to do with the weather. this year it has become quite cold this month but I remember other septembers when children would be in t-shiest and hats playing in the park.

anyway, it would seem that we are now in the hat wearing period.
