Basho's Frog Pond

My favourite pond ... for now, anyway. Taken out of the window on the passenger side on the emergency lane of the access road leading to the A17. Actually a now-or-never moment; a few meters further and it would have been too late. Beautiful morning and afternoon with lots of sun. Fantastic day at work, too; (almost) everything done that I had to do, and the rest is mañana, no problem.

Am suddenly wondering how much lower in value the farm who owns this pond now is, in comparison with the time before the A17 was built. It's not a new highway, not at all, so that is not my point. The question just struck me because the farm is standing literally next to the highway, although you can only fully appreciate it when you are at the top of the access road. Bless access roads!

Who is Basho? One of the pillars of the Japanese poetic form called the haiku. His famous haiku (which has undergone a plethora of variations) --

old pond
a frog jumps in ...
sound of water
