A Cautionary Poem

Jane, who is usually cautious, threw caution
to the wind and went swimming in the ocean.


She was lured and lulled by its motion
and pull and by the heat of a sunny day.
She’d applied her factor 30 suntan lotion
and was feeling well protected but
factor in the fact that she wasn’t a strong swimmer
and that she’d been in the bar for several hours
with a bunch of dubious characters
and staggered out of it feeling life was easy and sweet
(which was a pleasant lapse in her cautious existence)
and…well…as far as…what…happened…next…
