History - Scottish National Portrait Gallery

Listening to the radio yesterday while peeling apples, I heard that there was a new statue on the top of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, so I went off to find out more today.

Janice Forsyth programme on Radio Scotland has a link here for a while where she interviews the sculptor Sandy Stoddart.

Here's a bit more about it (from the National Galleries of Scotland website):

Sandy Stoddart, Sculptor in Ordinary to The Queen in Scotland, talks about his Portrait Gallery commission to create a monumental figure depicting History for the exterior of the building.

The original figure of History, by William Birnie Rhind, adorned the apex of the main entrance of the Gallery from 1893 but was lost during a later renovation. Stoddart will introduce the sculpture and discuss his process and the preparatory works which are the focus of the exhibition, Making History.
