Richard Thornton - From the Wolds to the Sea.

This morning had a whole host of longtailed tits fly to my feeding station but they are too quick for me to photograph and anyway we were having a day of culture!
We went to Caistor Arts and Heritage centre to see some of Avril Morris's work. Avril is an artist and lives in Louth and has recently done some beautifully lively and vibrant paintings on her I-pad and then printed them off. The colours are just great and really uplifting. Could well be tempted to make a purchase!
We then went to Abbey Walk Gallery in Grimsby, where a sculptor called Richard Thornton has an exhibition called 'From the Wolds to the sea'. His pieces, some of which are huge, are made out of stainless steel and reflect whatever is around. A lot are for public spaces and really catch the eye. Some are exhibited in the local shopping centre (not my favourite place) and it was interesting to see people walk by a massive stainless steel sculpture and not even notice it! Tha's a shopping centre in Grimsby for you!
I thought some of the smaller pieces looked like fascinators - that's how much I know about sculpture - but the shapes were very very pleasing.
This is one of his smaller works and is stainless steel sprayed with yellow car paint.
