Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A wallowing in nostalgia

The cleansing of our Stygian store continues, revealing long forgotten treasures, including the elder Talpid's BOAC Junior Jet Club Log Book. She was almost 1 year old and her first ever flight, in 1972, was in a BOAC Super VC-10 from Nadi in Fiji, the land of her birth, to Los Angeles. From there we flew to Vancouver and caught the train across the Rockies to Quebec and then flew onwards to Scotland. It was quite an adventure for a 1 year old, but sadly she remembers not a moment of it!

Those were the days when flying was an unadulterated pleasure, uncrowded airports, no security searches, no queues, cocktails awaiting you onboard the aircraft, bags of legroom, excellent food, and airmail letters provided to allow you to write home. And that was just in cattle class!
