Perfect Autumn day

Today's pic sums up the lovely walk we had today. Nearly 5 miles round Reading that took in urban decay and edginess, riverside creativity and luxury and secluded countryside - all in a balmy Indian Summer heat - it was wonderful!
I wanted to post this picture of the unusual labyrinth weir but thought it might look too boring. In real life it was amazing and made a tremendous noise as all the water poured over into the Kennet canal.
Most fascinating were all the little terraced town houses whose gardens backed onto the river. Each one had its own riverside style. Some had little jetties and patios devoted to sitting and watching the river go by. Others just used it as a place to dump their compost and garden rubbish. On the other side were endless pockets of fishermen with their wriggling cans of maggots just looking for a bit of peace and quiet - and then Jim comes along!
