Jamie misses a step...

The weather seems unable to decide whether to be autumn or summer. This bunch of leaves seems to be similarly indecisive.

Baking day today. Friday night is our newly inaugurated Family Movie Night, so I wanted to make pizzas. I wasn't happy with my old pizza dough recipe, so thought I'd give Jamie Oliver's recipe a try. Here's how it goes:

1. Seive flour and salt onto clean worksurface.
2. Mix yeast, sugar and oil into warm water.
3. Make well in centre of flour and pour in yeast mix.
4. Gradually mix flour into yeast mix to form a dough.

Hmmm. He seems to me to have missed out steps 2a through 2c:

2a. Watch in horror as wet mix unsurprisingly overflows inadequate well in centre of flour.
2b. Grab every clean utensil in the kitchen to try and stem the flow.
2c. Scrape everything into a big bowl and mix it in there, hoping that not too much of the yeast is on the floor.

Anyway, the pizza was great after all that. We watched Mamma Mia - which me and the kids have seen loads of times, but Mr B had never seen. Fun movie. Conor, predictably wandered off to play with knights in the slow slushy bits. He was always listening though, piping up with thought-provoking questions like "What's a slut?". Mr B, fast as lightening, came up with "Like a slug, only faster".
