The Fight to Legalize Marijuana

Today at Huntington Beach, popularized by Beach Boys fame, was a protest led by a pro-cannabis group for the legalization of marijuana. So many things interested me about this event. I was surprised that they were willing to be vocal and to speak in favor of legalizing, taxing, and monitoring the use of marijuana. The police were stationed just feet away. Some of the people would leave the line, go to the bathrooms, take a hit, then get back into line slightly more stoned than they were minutes earlier.

I also wondered WHAT ELSE these same people would be willing to stand up for-- and what would we (I) stand up for:

* Atrocities of foreign despots?
* The crushed North Korean, Chinese, or Iranian voices?
* Human trafficking?
* Pro-choice or pro-life?
* What? What else could get these folks out to protest with hand-written signs?

Interesting is that we are sometimes willing to fight for our rights, but seldom will we fight for others' rights. Also, with all of the significant issues going on in our world, I'm curious about the will of the people to gather for such a protest.

Who knows? Maybe one day when all this girl is a grandmother she can turn her granddaughter on to her first bud. Ahh, memories.
