de Haviland Devon

LH has been an archaeologist for 8 years and undertaken numerous walkover surveys and assessments... Before today he had never discovered a plane crash site - after today he has discovered two.

The first (pictured) is a de Haviland Devon which crashed on 3rd June 1958. The preservation of the aircraft is incredible, even after 55 years - perhaps due to the remote nature of the site.

A short distance away, a scar in the hillside littered with debris was the crash site of a Vickers Wellington. Crashing on 25th January 1941, a wee bit of research has revealed that Pilot Flying Officer JFM Miller lost his life. Despite the remote and inhospitable nature a small cross had been erected and some poppies placed nearby - really made you feel proud of your fellow Scots. Out of respect, I decided not to post a picture of the second site.
