Scallop

Our holiday is intended to be a mixture of natural history, walking and culture - especially soaking up as much as possible of the atmosphere surrounding the Britten centenary. This sculpture on the shingle beach at Aldeburgh by Maggi Hambling, in memory of the great composer Benjamin Britten, has not been well received by everyone. I think it is just brilliant. An energetic walk along the beach, against a strengthening, but quite warm, wind was followed by a wonderful lunch and an inspiring visit to The Red House, where Britten lived and worked from 1957 until his death in 1976.
