how it is

Honesty

I went in search of apples, and found these. The bramleys will be nice baked, with sultanas, butter, sugar and cream. On the way home I bought some potatoes, only 20p a pound.

Over the year you can wander round the village and buy eggs, potatoes, runner and broad beans, courgettes, marrows, fruit (including apples, pears, damsons, plums, greengages and strawberries), and flower and vegetables plants of all sorts, left in front of houses. Some specify a price, others (like the apples today) just leave it to you to pay whatever you think they're worth. I've sold surplus produce like this myself, and only once has someone taken something without paying - I bet it wasn't a villager!
