Approach to cathedral, Menton

Perched on the crest of a hill, then surrounded by houses, there was no grand approach to the cathedral in Menton ... until someone found a creative way of building an impressive staircase between some of the houses. I suspect somebody's home had to be reduced to rubble, but needs must ...
