After the rain

A busy morning trying to get laundry done, groceries bought, and Murdoch to the kennels before catching the train to London where I was to meet Gavin who was then driving us to Norwich. I had arranged to meet him at Trafalgar Square, which as usual was full of people and very busy. I loved the light after the rain, yet the skies were still heavy as the rain clouds had not yet drifted off.

Driving out of London to Norwich took forever! There is no direct route and we seemed to take a very circuitous route through Islington, Hackney, past the Olympic stadium and other places I had never heard of until we finally reached the motorway.

The ski team had gone up on the school mini bus and the parents all travelled up after work by car or train. The hotel was full of other ski teams and parents and not many other guests other than an older group of bikers from Yorkshire. Norwich was hosting the ESSKIA National Ski Championships, and our teams had qualified at Southampton about a month earlier. The boys had 2 hours of practice at the Norwich ski centre and then the parents spent the early evening sharpening and preparing skis outside in the hotel car park, in preparation for Saturday's racing. There was much banter between all the teams and coaches, and in fact many of the teams came from Surrey and all knew each other from other races. Then it was dinner and off to bed as we were up early the next morning for the racing.
