Scotland’s Giant Red Wood Avenue

They were planted in 1863 by Piers Patrick, a wealthy American who had bought Ben More estate the year before. It is now part of The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) which was founded in the 17th century as a physic garden. Benmore Botanic Garden has a magnificent mountainside setting on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll and is an enchanting Garden steeped in history and surrounded by dramatic scenery.
