Great Shearwater

Our tour took a pelagic outing from Sagres, Portugal this morning. That is, a dozen of us rode a good 45 minutes out to sea, with our guides, to see seabirds that normally do not come close to shore.

Above all we encountered several species of shearwaters--seabirds somewhat larger than gulls, with especially powerful flight. We had best views of the Great Shearwater (Puffinus gravis), especially this one.
