Purple

I don’t see “purple” fall leaves very often. Purple is not my favorite colour yet I have more friends who love the colour purple, and I love that they love purple. Yet did you know the word purple occurs 51 times in the Bible (NIV)?

Here are just a few mentionables.

In the book of Exodus, we read that God commanded Moses saying: "Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine woven linen and blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim you shall weave them." Exod 26:1

During Bible history, purple was worn by the rich and powerful, some righteous, some not: "warriors clothed in purple, governors and commanders" (Ezekiel 23:6 RSV)

During Jesus’ ministry, He was clothed in purple as a sign of royalty, but in mockery of His claim to be the promised Messiah and heir to the throne of David.
“And they clothed Him with purple; and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head, .... And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him." Mark 15:17&20

When I see the color purple, I am reminded of Christ’s humility and the forgiveness He offers to all mankind. The gift of salvation is free, you just have to answer the call.
