bastards

Hopefully two in as many days will not set a pattern for the remainder. The spokes might be slightly cheap and are plain-gauge and therefore possibly slightly less stretchy but I wouldn't have thought that the amount of difference in stretch would be enough to warrant two of them pinging in such quick succession. I was carrying a fair bit of shopping yesterday evening but the load on the rear wheel would only have been the equivalent of a bicycle with no shopping carrying someone weighing sixteen stone rather than someone weighing thirteen stone carrying some extra shopping, counting the weight of the shopping for a bit more as it's almost entirely resting on the rear wheel whereas a sixteen-stone person would be spread more between the two. Sixteen-stone people can presumably get wheels to not ping spokes with great frequency. I have at least two spare 36-hole rims in the loft so shall find a rear freehub somewhere, get some worthwhile spokes and make myself another spare in case this salvage-job turns out to be unsalvageable.
