The origin of Tapas

We had dinner with some friends in the Almería region, and we had to cover our wine to prevent bugs to "enjoy" it.
That is exactly where the word "Tapas" comes from.

The original tapas were the slices of bread (sometimes meat) which sherry drinkers in taverns used to cover their glasses to prevent fruit flies from hovering over the sweet sherry.
