Gala Bingo Hall, formerly the Granada Cinema

The second day of the Open House London weekend. This is the Granada Cinema in Tooting Broadway, now used as a bingo hall. It's a Grade I listed cinema, built in the 1930s. The gothic interior was fantastic! Another difficult day to choose just one image for blip!

In this picture we are up in the balcony, the guide is the man in the short sleeved shirt, standing. The tours were being held only until 11 a.m. before the bingo started. A gentleman in our group spoke up and told us how he'd "courted" his wife at the cinema many moons ago, it was a wonderful story.

We also viewed Pullman Court, in Streatham Hill, a Grade II listed "Modern Movement" apartment building, built in 1936, architect Frederick Gibberd. There were two apartments open to the tour as well as some of the shared spaces. Our last stop was at Christ Church, in Streatham, a Grade I listed building. It was a buzzing and very friendly church, their Sunday service had just ended as the open house tours began. I was looking forward to some tea and cake but the cake had all gone!
