Yellow flag pods.

The seed pods of yellow flag Iris pseudacorus are as impressive as the flowers are beautiful.

The fluttering of the yellow flowers was thought to resemble flags blowing in the breeze, hence the name 'yellow flag'. An alternative name for the plant is 'segg', which derives from the Old English word sęcg meaning 'short sword', and refers to the shape of the leaves.
