It was a banner year...

for hornets and wasps. Often when I was out the sound was almost like a symphony with waves of buzzing. The leaves are drying up and today I found these palm sized nests built into many of the low shrubs at the edge of the lake. This is the first year in many that I was stung badly in the back of my leg. It took days for the swelling to go down.
