Beautiful Bubba

What a crazy busy day!! Back at work after days off and it was just non-stop all day! Current patients include a golden lion tamarin, purple-crowned lorikeet, curlew, kookaburras, three species of turtle and FOUR black cockatoos. All with varying degrees of illness and injury.

This gorgeous bubba red tail black cockatoo is fast becoming my favourite patient, and no I havn't used some weird red filter! He's just sitting under a red heat lamp :) He is a suspect hit-by-car and has a fractured corocoid bone, fractured keel and the rather obvious indented top bill (which I personally thinks makes him all the more endearing). Unfortunately he has developed crop emptying issues and we are having a lot of trouble putting weight onto him. So his prognosis is not looking so good. We just diagnosed him with a yeast infection so hopefully now that we've started treatment for that it will help him to digest his food a little better. Fingers crossed!
