Our local heritage railway’s steam weekend continues, as does the bad weather, except that today the weather was even worse, much worse, than yesterday. This didn’t deter the enthusiasts, although it did ruin many pictures. Pouring rain does nothing for sharpness or sparkle in a photograph. However, even with the rain I did my best to capture loco LMS 4F no. 43924, which returned to use on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway in 2011 after an extensive overhaul. The loco was built in Derby in 1920 and is the last surviving Midland 4F locomotive. It is famous for being the first to leave the Barry Scrapyard at the end of steam. Last run in 1987, loco 43924 is headlining this weekend’s Steam Gala.
