How not to use a flash bracket

I picked up a stoboframe flash bracket on ebay recently. The idea being it raises your flash and the shadows will drop out of shot when you're shooting.

As you can see by the massive shadow the Weatherman's bonce is casting on the wall behind him, I've clearly huvnae set it up right.
