Forth Crossings

Today our day trip took us once again across the River Forth but this time we stopped just at the other side and visited the delightful little town of South Queensferry.
After a bar lunch overlooking the Rail and Road Bridges we went for a wander and I had a nostalgic trip down to the slipway where the Ferry used to disembark passengers crossing from Fife - a crossing we used to do regularly, prior to the opening of the Road Bridge in 1964, when visiting my grandparents in Edinburgh. It was quite an adventure in these days I seem to remember!
Unfortunately today it was a rather grey day and the lovely Rail Bridge which opened in 1890 and is known always as the "Forth Bridge" was not being shown at its best. I made a mental note to come back on a nice sunny day and blip it again.
It would have made a nice blip to see one of the ferries at the slip but sadly 3 of them were scrapped the year after the Road Bridge opened and only 1 survived to be used elsewhere for a few years.
(The Road Bridge can just be seen at the far left of the picture.)
