The Roof of Mull

Ben More is the only Island Munro out with Skye. I have perhaps thought of Mull as a one hill island and I'm sure many Munro baggers out there have taken the same view. Such an oversight could see you miss some fine views.

We were working on the north side of Ben More again today. If anything the weather was even better. I took an extended lunch break and made a brisk (for me) ascent to Beinn Fhada (Long Hill). The name is appropriate. A long ridge, broad at its north west end narrows towards its summit at the SE end to a rocky spur with quite amazing views in all directions.

A quick roll call; The Paps of Jura, Coll and Tiree, South Uist, Rum, Isle of Skye, Knoydart, Morvern, Lochaber Mountains, Glen Coe, Ben Cruachan and mountains a long way south may be the Arrochar Alps and one more; a truly impressive Ben More standing head and shoulders (260m) above me. As alluded to at the start, countless similalr mountains to Beinn Fhada unfolded to the east and south.

It was a very swift circuit; one which didn't allow that complete savouring of the moment and that has only served to whet the appetite. Caley will be most upset if he finds out that he has missed out on such an outing.
