Lots of old mill buildings in various states of repair around our area, Georgetown getting its first water-powered sawmill in 1837. This one, at Alton, about 20 miles away, was first developed as a knitting mill before being converted in the 1930s to the making of rubber products - including balloons for Disney and condoms for Canadian servicemen during the Second World War. Napoleon, it seems, was only half right when he said an army marches on its stomach . . .
