Celebration dinner

We were invited to dinner by some good friends to celebrate their son's birthday and this is what we had - it's called nasi tempong and it's a visual and taste sensation.

It's made of yellow rice, potato cutlets, hard boiled eggs deep fried then dressed with a spicy chili sauce, tempeh (a type of fermented soy bean) and some sliced cucumbers, served on banana leaf. Some more boiled eggs still in their shells, which have been dyed red, are also placed on the dish.

This is apparently a traditional Indonesian celebration dish, and we were honoured to be asked to share in a family occasion.
