Pineapple pest

Was enchanted to see this morning that the weedy looking pineapple top that I stuck in a pot a long while ago had sprouted a wee pineapple (not much bigger than a thumbnail). Considerably less enchanted, on looking closer, to find this bug making a meal of it. The bug did not survive the encounter, but the pineapple is doing fine.
Set off for Macaé, up the coast from Rio, the customary hour late, further delayed by a detour to a textile outlet to buy material for tablecloths. Traffic abominable, as Tuesday 15th is a school holiday and Teachers' Day, so everyone who could was leaving town to make a long weekend of it. Road works everywhere and a 3-hour journey took an easy five and a half hours. Others who came later were even less fortunate, and took seven and a half.
Arrived only a little late to practice some ceilidh dancing with a small group (2 Texans, 1 Argentine, 1 Brazilian, 2 Scots and 3 English mixes - others chickened out after the preliminary drinks. Managed to tie down the Eightsome Reel and the usual Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sargeant, etc., so we all went away feeling quite satisfied. Let's see how much is remembered tomorrow.
