Aftermath of Gales

While much damage was caused in many parts of the country by the stormy northwest gales of a few days ago our part of Marlborough got off fairly lightly. Some willows and poplar trees are down along the upper Taylor River tracks. There is a big willow down across the river very near this spot. It is partly in the water and will cause a problem if we get heavy rain and an increased flow in the river.
This willow across the track has been tidied up a little. Some smaller branches have been pulled off and out of the way. When I first came across it the other day it was virtually impossible to scramble through the branches. It was certainly impossible for cyclists to get their mountain bikes past. Access is still difficult but it can be done with a little muscle power. More gales are predicted over the next day. It is to be hoped that not too much damage will be caused.
