Kate Rusby and band at Tunbridge Wells

A lovely evening of music and conversation with Kate Rusby, the "Barnsley Nightingale" and her band at the Assembly Halls, Tunbridge Wells. Fortunately I was able to sit on an aisle seat and so stretch my leg out.

We must have seen Kate a dozen or more times over the years and each time she has been excellent but today was one of her best as her band were outstanding. In this shot is Kate, the bass player whose name I cannot recall or find and Damien O'Kane, Kate's husband. Also in the band were Aaron Jones on mandolin and Julian Sutton on melodeon (a squeeze box, accordion like instrument)

If you've never listened to any of Kate's songs you're missing a treat. Her take on Christmas Carols is also well worth listening too. In Yorkshire it appears they have a tradition of singing Carols, in the pubs, but to different tunes. Have a listen to the album "Sweet Bells" or "While Mortals Sleep" for lovely interpretations of the traditional songs.

Better still, see her webiste http://www.katerusby.com/. She's on her Autumn tour at the moment and will be also doing a few Christmas concerts too.
