Potato Harvest

Spent a very enjoyable afternoon picking up the potato crop on my friends smallholding. Their working horses Winnie and Henry did all the hard work pulling the potato digger, which threw up the spuds onto the surface for us to gather! Actually Tim who was guiding the digger behind the horses and keeping it in a straight line had to work very hard too!
I love working with horses and these two are so well behaved, they help with many a tasks on the holding and make it possible to grow field scale crops. After harvesting Henry was harnessed up to a cart and we loaded all the spuds on board so they could be taken into the barn to dry and be stored.
When the work was complete we shared a hearty supper and some stimulating conversation.
