The Met at Night

After a late lunch at the apartment with our old friend Daralee, we headed eastward to the Metropolitan Museum on Fifth Avenue. I took this just before leaving, at 8:42 pm--looking from the second floor of an area between the two main parts of the huge museum.

As nearly always, we visited to temporary exhibitions. Foremost was a small but utterly exquisite collection of "Medieval Treasures from Hildesheim" in Germany, some from as early as ca. 1000. (Edit: The Met's site--follow the link--shows all the objects in the show, and you can zoom in on them.)

Other shows we saw featured the painter Balthus, dozens of lavish textiles traded mostly from the Orient to Europe (1500-1800), and 18th century French etchings.
