The Long Jetty

Well Im a little behind in my Blips, yesterday was such a long day..

We arose early and travelled down to Leongatha Golf Club to compete in an event.

The event was a Canadian event with the sponsor being Kit Boag who is 94 and STILL playing golf. Kit has been sponsor for this event for the past 38 years. She flippantly told a lady golfer at the Leongatha Golf Club one day, that she would love to see 100 people (50 couples) playing in her event before she gave up golf or died. Well yesterday was the day!!! My partner and I were proudly part of the 100 golfers who took to the fairways at Leongatha yesterday :)

In her presentation speech, she acknowledged the HUGE field of players and said "Maybe we could make it 120 next year!!!!"

As I was busy yesterday keeping my head down and swinging through my body, I had no time to take a photograph, so I'm resorting to a shot taken the previous evening (thats close enough to today isn't it?) whilst on our evening walk along the beach.

"The Long Jetty"

The Long Jetty at Port Welshpool, Victoria, Australia, was constructed from timber in the late 1930’s and, at over 900m in length, is the longest timber Jetty in Victoria. The Jetty is listed on the Victorian Heritage Inventory as significant for both its curvature and length.

The Long Jetty was closed in June 2003 after a fire due to safety concerns. The Jetty’s primary use at the time, as it had been for many years, was as a recreational facility. It was a popular fishing location as the Jetty’s outer end provided access to deep water.

On 17 November 2010, the Government pledged a commitment of $3,000,000 for the restoration of Port Welshpool Long Jetty; however studies undertaken in 2006 estimated the cost of repairing and reopening the Jetty at $15 million. Given this disparity, the Victorian Government has committed a further $300,000 to undertake a detailed options assessment for the redevelopment of the iconic Long Jetty.
