EH8 9BH - Brassfounders’ Pillar 1886

Actually I have passed around the Nicolson Square Gardens many times.
But I have never been focused on details of the Brassfounders’ Pillar.

Until today...

Must say that the bronze statuette and column on granite base looks very nice in all details.
Sir James Gowans designed column. John Rhind was sculptor of statuette (1886).

Look at one part from detail ;-)

Leith is everywhere in Edinburgh.
Actually if you would like to know more about that sign check again one oldest blip from the following "Leith - blipper" Lali. Part of history from her (26 April 2012) blip.

And what did I do today in this area?

Actually I just went around to visit a few charity shops from South Bridge to Nicolson Street.

Final bill was 5,5o pounds. And what about the items in my imaginary basket?

Actually first stop in Save The Children (32-36 South Bridge) charity shop was significant for me.

Bought together the DVD Blade Runner "Director´s Cut" (2.00£) + CD Vangelis - Blade Runner (1.50£) .
Must to see that movie again only in English with subtitles. Should be fine for learning a sci-fi English :-)

Anyway history of that movie is very interesting in details. Did you know the fact that Blade Runner meet another two great movies in the year 1982? Oh yes, that was the year of science-fiction battle. And who were the rivals?

But it was the phenomenal success just for Steven Spielberg´s E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (budget over 10,500,000 $/earned worldwide over 790,000,000 $). Huge numbers if we compare that E.T. success with Blade Runner´s numbers (budget over 28,000,000 $/earned worldwide over 50,100,000 $) and John Carpenters´ The Thing numbers (budget over 15,000,000 $/earned worldwide over 18,200,000 $).

Yes of course I saw the E.T. and I understand his phenomenal success.
The truth is that another two loosers became a cult classics for a lot of sci-fi fans in the following years.

Blade Runner is a cult classic for his bright interpretation of Philip K.Dick´s visionary imagination of the world of Tyrell Corp. futuristic robots (" "More human than human" is our motto") called androids which are landing in Los Angeles 2019 ;) Vangelis´ music just beautifully illustrating the atmosphere of 21st century´s future tech. Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer are excellent in their characters.

The Thing is a cult movie for his scary isolating place of US station in Antarctica when group of polar explorers are succesfully fighting with the extraterrestrial virus despite the fact that nobody could survive in that battle. Kurt Russell is great in his character ("I know I´m human...") and Ennio Morricone´s music is very important for the feeling of claustrophobia in that movie.

Have you ever seen Honda´s ASIMO ?
