This is not a hoary old chestnut.

It is a young and vibrant chestnut, splitting open to show the glossy fruit. What a lovely sight! Just at the moment chestnuts are all over the roads in the part of Suffolk where I live - a bumper crop in a bumper year as autumn finally turns around us.

I went out on Sunday to pick a few last sloes..

.. and also picked up a huge bag of involuntary chestnuts, just because I couldn't bear to leave them lying...
