a little late

Fringe show reviews are of limited use the day after the last shows have taken place unless this bloke was memorising everything for use when booking shows next year. One of the things I shall be suggesting to the Fringe-organising people when I email them to complain about the excessive ear-buggering volumes in many of their venues is the option to make use of the fact that the same online account at edfringe.com which is required to purchase tickets online can be used to post reviews of shows by offering rebates or future discounts to people who post reviews of shows early enough for them to be of use to other people looking to see what to see, especially during the first week or so when tickets are cheaper. I'll also be suggesting they add a little ticky-box option to each listing labelled "Are the sound levels in this venue controlled by a techie who is evidently already suffering from noise-related partial hearing loss?" to enable people to go prepared with earplugs to prevent themselves falling victim to the same condition when the already-loud pre-intro music is turned up several levels when it becomes the intro music.

In spite of the fact that it was the first working day of the month I managed to leave my desk just before 5pm. In future months the month-end-reporting process should hopefully be steamlined (if we're given sufficient time to do something about the complicated cascades of data movement we're in the middle of mapping) but the old-fashioned methods are still in use at the moment, fine when everything runs smoothly but a bit of a pain in the face when fiddling is necessary or when something breaks. As it was also the first day for over a week with nothing festivalwise happening the evening seemed far longer than usual, leaving enough time to sit about editing pictures for a couple of hours whilst Nicky filled the kitchen with the smell of vinegar and stewing rhubarb before popping for a run then reading both of the work photo club magazines I've been failing to redistribute for the past fortnight.
