Pump Factory taking shape

After more than a year of bureaucrats, planning consultations, obstructions and general annoyance from the powers that be, the factory finally got under way a little over a month ago. Our first Blackrock College volunteers drove the foundation digging with blisters, blood and broken pick handles, while the second groups shifted about 40 thousand bricks in one hectic day of hand to hand combat. What a crew!!
Then, there was a challenge for Peter and his Malawian building gang to, match that, and they truly did. In fact they surprised themselves in how much they managed to achieve with the most redimentary of tools and methods. They mixed everything by hand and wheeled it in the most awful of wheelbarrows with solid tyres!!.
This was my last pic on Monday evening; we were hoping to have the steel trusses, which were made up but not as yet delivered.
This pic is a salute to everyone who helped with Peter and Alifay, who kept track of every single brick and cement bag!!!!
The rush is now on to finish the job as the first big order has come in for pumps from one of our new partners, the Australian NGO Glabal Concern who have ordered 200 pumps after the success of the two installed by Harisen in Karonga.
