But it is called Cheat Grass and is regarded as a really bad weed. It came from Asia in contaminated seeds in the late 18 hundreds and fooled the early farmers in these dry valleys into thinking that they could raise cattle with it. Unfortunately it has hardly any food value, although it looks lush in early spring and is coloring the brown mountains with a soft green. The more it dries out, the more it increases the fire danger on the hills.
