Heron at dusk

Late afternoon walk through the zoo - my last one! This is a Nankeen Night Heron. A bird I'm not used to seeing around so much, but in the zoo they are nesting like crazy and can actually be a bit of a pain as the adults sometimes harass the zoo collection animals. This is a juvenile bird, identified by the stripy / barred feathering, which changes to a solid rufous colour when they reach maturity.

I'm spending tonight at my new house for the first time! I'll miss hearing the gibbons/lemurs/lions and elephants but its time to move on and stop living out of a suitcase!
