Letting Off Steam

Bristol has an impressive heritage and the city does well to share it with residents and visitors alike. This old steam engine shunts up and down the harbourside giving children (of all ages!) a great thrill. The advertising sign confirms that passengers may experience ...smoke and smuts... but that... there is no extra charge for this service.

Between the legs of the crane you can see part of the replica sailing ship The Matthew, the original of which was captained by Giovanni (John) Cabot when, in 1497, he landed in the New Found Land.
