Coal was King

Panallta Colliery near Caerphilly in the old South Wales coal fields, the engine house of British industry. That is before Thatcher came and closed the industry, and nearly South Wales too ! This is one of the old winding wheels, there is another next to it, which was a safety rescue shaft. This is just one of the many across the region in the valleys.
