Penultimate day on Route 66 today

This was seen in Springfield Illinois where the driver and navigator system went awry.

Now in Pontiac - just under two hours from Chicago - where we finish the route and hand the car back.

It's been a splendid trip - accompanied by fantastic scenery - desert - mountains - rolling plains - Indian reservations - even the Pacific Ocean for a time - and the railroad.

Have met many characters on the way - slept in some motels we were pleased to see the back of - seen our name mention in a café at Amboy by fellow villagers.

We've certainly got our kicks on Route 66
