Swimming Polar Bear

After buying what seemed like the entire stock of jumpers from a local wool shop (the brilliant Woolshed at Evie) we headed to Stromness for lunch and a wander around the Pier Arts Centre. As well as beautiful scenery and ever-changing weather, Orkney is also blessed with this fantastic and dynamic art centre that always seems to have an interesting exhibition in progress.

At the moment, the space is taken by the Jerwood Makers 2013 Show. We were astounded by the delicate art of Japanese paper sculptor Nahoko Kojima. A beautiful, life-size, rendition of a swimming polar bear which is cut from a single piece of paper (3m x 3m). It was incredibly moving to look at. The photo does it hardly any justice at all.
