History relived

Peaceful scene in Colonial Williamsburg - just wipe out the tourists in the background,

We had a long chat yesterday with Hugh, or Hugo - unfortunately, I dropped the map where we had noted down his name and email (he was very technologically advanced for his time). As it was 'after hours', while still looking every inch the 18th century working man, he stepped mentally out of his role, no longer talking about the 18 hundreds as here and now, and told us a bit about himself and how he became involved with recreating the colonial atmosphere. He used to teach government up at Ithaca, and filled us in on many aspects of colonial and modern times we would not otherwise have been aware of - a real bonus, and we greatly appreciated his willingness to linger on after his long working day.

We came across him again today and had another long chat, but first caught him fully into his colonial role, with his back to us on the left in this shot.

We're beginning to doubt whether the lady at the resort desk was right when she told us 3 days was more than enough time to see everything in the historic centre of town.
