Check out these layers

Day 2 and we went to another island, whose name has escaped me, and climbed to the summit of an extinct volcano. The crater was full of trees. There should have been an excellent view from the summit, but some fog rolled in, so the view was left to our imagination.

On the way down, we stopped to chat to some other walkers, and were then followed down by their dog (as we thought). They told us he wasn't theirs and had followed them up from a village. He stayed with us throughout the very steep and tiring 1,000m descent, and then dumped us for another group when we reached the village at the bottom. We think he was a stray.

These layers, put down by long-ago eruptions, were just above the village.
