Hello Berlin! (#2)

A slightly lazier day today than yesterday... partly because yesterday was just daft, but also because today was the twentieth anniversary of Mrs BH and I first stepping out. Twenty years!

So we had a long and very tasty brunch, then got the tourist bus (48-hour hop on hop off - brilliant!) to the Brandenburg Gate, except we had to go to the Reichstag instead as there were two protests by the Gate... walked down the edge of the Tiergarten to find the memorial to the lesbians and gay men who were persecuted in Germany (and not just by the Nazis). It's a large concrete box, and if you peek through the small window you get to see a video of short clips of gay couples kissing.

Then we walked around some more of the Tiergarten and then through the Cultural Quarter to the Schwules Museum, where we took in the different art exhibitions and had a lovely coffee, then back on the tourist bus (we did get our money's worth!) to the Jewish Museum where we were taken through the entire history of Jews in Germany, and then walked to a fantastic vegetarian buffet restaurant. Very tasty dinner, then U-bahn to a very nice gay bar near our hotel where Mrs BH had local beer and I had a couple of cocktails... well someone's got to celebrate the anniversary, havent' they? :)
