Somerset Monument

This morning I took Lucy to a Guide day in the small South Gloucestershire village of Hawkesbury Upton. After dropping her off I went looking for a blip and found this grand monument. It was built by Lewis Vulliamy in 1846 in memory of Robert Somerset. Somerset was a General at the Battle of Waterloo of 1815. He died in 1842. He was a nephew of the 6th Duke of Beaufort. It is always surprising what you can find if you just look around the corner. I found this 100 feet tall tower!
