Relay

Family lunch all planned for today. B, B and gran were coming up for a visit then we were heading out to a place nearby to eat. It is in the middle of absolutely nowhere - but the food is good and there's plenty room for a large party. So. all sussed,or so you would think!

As with all the best laid plans, something inevitably goes wrong. Just about to leave and lead the car procession when we realised that the car wouldn't start. No real reason that we could think of as it had been fine the day before. A quick check to make sure that the immobilizer hadn't kicked in and that nothing had been left switched on over night revealed nothing. The battery was stone cold dead. It didn't even have enough juice to lock the doors. So, lunch in 15 minutes, a 9 mile cross country hike to get there, 9 people and one car...

B offered to run a relay service and the first group disappeared off with Gran. I phoned the restaurant to let them know what was happening and then we had a laugh thinking about the sketch from Fawlty Towers - you know the one where he is trying to get a take away from a friends restaurant and the car breaks down? Anyway, we finally got there and had a great lunch. Same carry on to get back home again, but a day to remember I think!

Later, the AA man came and took a look at he car after we got back and found that there had been a power drain on the battery from the air conditioning unit - even when the car had been switched off. So he removed the appropriate relay switch to stop this happening and we went out for a drive to recharge the battery. Knackered by the time I got home. So flopped in front of the Chronicles of Riddick and then an early bed. As a result - a back blip and an apology for the lack of comments. Hopefully things will be a little less hectic this week.
